THE RAPID RATE at which housing developments are going up around Barbados is forcing the Barbados Postal Service to change its mode of delivery.
The community post box is steadily replacing individual mail delivery by postmen and women to large housing developments, a feature which Postmaster General Margaret Ashby says will become more common as communities continue to expand.
Ashby said that with just over 260 postal delivery workers, it was proving difficult for the Postal Service to make the individual deliveries for which it has been traditionally known.
“Normally, we try to give a postman about 500 delivery points, but because of the expansion of residential areas, and all those developments springing up with 1 000 or 500 houses, this has put a great strain on the post office in meeting our standards,” Ashby told the MIDWEEK NATION. (GC)
