MINISTER OF HEALTH John Boyce has stopped short of issuing an apology, and neither is he attributing any blame for the foul-up over leaked effluent caused by the malfunctioning South Coast Sewage Treatment Plant.
But, at a political meeting Sunday night at The Lester Vaughan School, he did admit that the ball was dropped on the issue of maintaining the plant, which opened around 2003.
“It is a fact that maintenance should have been applied to that plant, the kind of interventional maintenance should have been applied, at a much earlier stage, and I certainly regret the fact that we allowed the situation to reach the point where it affected so many people,” he said.
“I empathise entirely with the population who have been affected – Christ Church West, Christ Church South, Worthing, etcetera and the business places and we want to be part of the solution.” (WILLCOMM)
