Howl over Harlequin

FOR MANY RESIDENTS on the South Coast, the ongoing sewage problems were more than enough, but now for business owners the site of the unfinished Harlequin Hotel is proving to be the bane of their existence.

This is because the property, which has been idle for more than three years, has plenty of water-filled potholes which have become a virtual mosquito breeding ground.

Businesses, including Kentucky Fried Chicken, Naru Restaurant Lounge, Payless Shoe Store, Almond Bay Caterers and South 7 Bar Grill, have reported an increase in the amount of mosquitoes around their properties.

Floor manager of Naru, Nico Hutson, said it was always a problem but now they had seen an increase in the pesky, blood-sucking insects since the onset of the rains and blamed the stalled construction of the Harlequin Hotel. (MR)
