Christmas backpay

IT’S NOT TOO late for workers at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) to receive a Christmas bonus.

That’s the word from Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy, who believes there is still a possibility the airport’s management and the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) could reach an agreement before Christmas.

General secretary of the NUPW, Roslyn Smith, on Tuesday indicated that the union’s proposal to the airport had been sent to the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, which governs GAIA.

WEEKEND NATION investigations revealed that the NUPW had moved from its original stance of a 16 per cent increase and was now asking for a six per cent increase from 2015 in a bid to ensure that members received some extra money for the Yuletide season. (RB)
