IT WAS KENSINGTON or bust.

Barbados Pride had no other option than to play their fourth and fifth round matches on the road once Kensington Oval was deemed unfit for play, as there is a standing rule stipulating that Digicel Regional 4-Day matches can only be staged at Test grounds.

Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) chief executive officer Noel Lynch gave the explanation after the Pride were forced to play this month’s matches against Guyana and Windward Islands away from home due to the deteriorating state of the Oval’s outfield.

“The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), in its agreement with WIPA, has ruled that these matches can only be played at Test grounds because the WICB found a lot of the grounds outside of the Test-playing facilities to be inadequate for this type of competition,” said Lynch. (JM)
