Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one when he is fully taught will be like his teacher – Luke 6: 30 and 40
WITH SO MUCH INDUSTRIAL UNREST in Barbados these days, the time has come for Government to address the problem and make the airport and the seaport essential services.
We cannot afford to allow trade union leaders to destroy our beautiful country.
It would seem to this writer that as soon as negotiations with the Government break down, the unions are too willing to call out their members from the Immigration and the Customs and Excise Departments which are very important to the economy of any country.
What are the union leaders thinking? Security at the Grantley Adams International Airport or any airport should never be compromised.
International requirements mandate that passengers seeking to enter the restricted areas of the airport are subject to screening and security controls. The Government must look at training members of the Defence Force in some immigration and customs functions so that when the unions call out those workers on strike, the Government can utilise the soldiers to man those areas.
The time is also right to look at the functions of the presidents of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) and the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU). When they are elected to those positions, they should be on leave from their regular work and be paid by their unions. It seems that far too often they are away from work, and yet the Government has to pay them.
The Bible tells us that we cannot serve two masters at the same time, for we will either love one or forsake the other.
