Toners beat Carlton for second spot

IT WAS HARD to tell that the Goddard Enterprises Limited Division One volleyball women’s league was all but over when Burger King Clapham Toners and Phoenix Protection Services Carlton met at the Kensington Bond on Monday night.

They played after repeat queens Pan American International Insurance Warrens ended a perfect 10-0 season with a maximum 50 points by dismissing the knockout champs Flow Deacons 25-18, 25-15, 25-21.

Thus, both Toners and Carlton needed a win to take the second spot away from Deacons, who ended on 31 points.

And Carlton seemed on course to end in that unprecedented spot after taking a 2-1 advantage in sets and leading Toners in the fourth. (KB)
