A TWENTY-SIX-YEAR-old male is currently nursing injuries after a 5 p.m. shooting in Silver Hill Christ Church.
Tyrone Waithe, who was said to be talking to a female friend, was apparently hit in the hip area, Police reports indicated.
Residents in the area said they believe the incident was linked to gang activity.
A 67-year-old woman said when she heard the gunshots her entire body tensed up.
“Man the youngsters foolish and lawless, just running about with big long guns. I ain’t living in no fear though I live here in Silver Hill,” she said.
A neighbour said she fell and injured her right shoulder in fear of being gunned down. She said she understood officers warned the youngsters in the area not to hang out at the nearby abandoned supermarket because it was linked to idle behaviour.
When contacted, police Public Relations Officer, Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler confirmed Waithe’s shooting.
“He was talking to a female when he was approached by some men and as a result he got that injury and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance,” he explained. (MR)
