ST CYPRIAN’S BOYS will defend their team title while a student from West Terrace Primary will win the individual girls’ crown when the 2016 Cave Shepherd/Berger Royale/A One Supermarkets National Primary Schools’ Road Tennis Championship finals are staged on Friday.
St Cyprian’s boys put on a clinical display of talent at the Rubis Courts at Brighton yesterday to set up a clash against Wesley Hall Juniors, while the two finalists in the individual girls’ competition are from West Terrace.
A large crowd of vocal supporters was on hand as the young combatants showed great skill in some very exciting battles. None was more fierce than the game between the Holford sisters of West Terrace, Jahzara and Solange, with two generations of families, parents and grandparents, along with an aunt, turning out to see the younger sibling take the close game.
Class Three student Solange edged Jahzara 21-18 after the contest was equal at 18-18. She will meet Jahzara’s Class Four schoolmate Serena Bryan after Bryan came from the death to upset the petite Ranesha Stewart of St Jude’s 22-20. (KB)
