Pastor: Leave out the trident

A PASTOR HAS SPOKEN of his uneasiness about the commemorative Broken Trident’s role in the island’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

According to Prophet Belfield Belgrave of the Christ Church-based God’s Vision of Prayer, Praise and Worship Ministry, the trident was the weapon of Neptune, the god of the sea, in classical mythology.

Belgrave said there was a connection between the trident and idol worship.

“The trident represents the Neptune spirit, a sea god. If people would go on the Internet and do some research, they would know that,” he told the WEEKEND NATION.

“I don’t know why so much emphasis is being placed on the trident when it represents a marine god and Barbadians are falling for it.” (RB)
