WORKERS OF A St Thomas service station were given a shock when a van caught afire nearby, forcing them to vacate the area earlier today.
The almost 30 employees of the Redman Village gas station had to shut shop for a short period while the smoking van was extinguished by members of the Barbados Fire Service.
Gas station operator Tyrone Maycock expressed concerned about the closeness of the fire to the service station, but quickly added they were always prepared for any such occasion.
Vehicle owner Ian Webster said he was on his way home around 11 a.m. after putting gasoline in the tank when he realised smoke was coming from his van.
The resident of Bibby’s Lane, St Michael explained he used the recently upgraded vehicle to transport goods for his farming business, but now had to look for another way to get things done.
One fire truck and three officers responded to the fire.
The Royal Barbados Police Force’s Public Relations Officer Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler said he had not yet received any information about the incident. (MR)
