In honour of long livers

HUNDREDS OF YEARS worth of pure Bajan experience was packed into one room yesterday as 25 centenarians gathered for an Independence celebratory luncheon.

Held at Accra Beach Hotel, it was hosted by the National Committee on Ageing and toasted 25 of the island’s 150 centenarians with a host of special messages, entertainment and fine dining.

It was held under the patronage of Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and Lady Belgrave, and included local and international dignitaries.

Minister of Social Care Steven Blackett, in his remarks, said that not only did Barbados boast an extremely high number of centenarians, but it also had a notably high life expectancy for its residents. (AD)
