POLICE ARE CONDUCTING investigations into a shooting incident which occurred in the wee hours of this morning at Clifton Hall, St John.
Officers from the Tactical Response Unit, Major Crime, and Criminal Investigations Division South were conducting an operation in the area where an unauthorised fete was being held.
Sometime around 3:30 a.m. the officers encountered a motorcar with a number of male occupants.
“The occupants in trying to evade the officers fired gunshots in the direction of the officers. The officers in fearing for their lives fired their firearms before the culprits made good their escape,” police spokesman acting inspector Roland Cobbler said in a release.
The officers subsequently seized a quantity of firearms and ammunition. A number of people were also taken into custody during the operation and investigations are continuing.
Cobbler said the Royal Barbados Police Force was concerned about the continuing use of firearms to perpetrate crime and was committed to working assiduously in an effort to rid the streets of illegal firearms.
“In this regard, the police are once again appealing to members’ public to utilise the anonymous means available for reporting to pass any information relating to persons in possession of illegal firearms, or areas where illegal firearms are being concealed. All information received will be strictly confidential,” he said. (PR/NB)
