YESTERDAY’S EMERGENCY MEETING of the National Union of Public Workers’ (NUPW) Executive Council never materialised.

The meeting, which was scheduled to be held at 2:30 p.m. at the union’s Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters to discuss the recent demotion of its president Akanni McDowall from his acting appointment to his substantive junior post in the Ministry of Health, was officially called off an hour later.

Among those present for the hastily called meeting were general secretary Roslyn Smith; acting deputy general secretary Delcia Burke; acting assistant general secretary Wayne Walrond and first vice president Joy-Ann Inniss.

While a member told the SATURDAY SUN that the union had failed to meet a quorum, in a brief interview McDowall said the union had chosen to reschedule the meeting until next week. (RB)
