NICOLA NICHOLAS’ cheering section was the loudest and biggest on the night, but that isn’t what swayed the judges to crown the 19-year-old Miss Teen Universal 2016 on Sunday night.
Nicholas, a student of the University of the West Indies pursuing a bachelor’s degree in economics and accounting, had poise and grace and handled pressure well in the question and answer segment of the show, held under the theme Island Treasures, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Dressed in a vibrant yellow gown made of matte jersey, designed by Lester Welch, the teen walked away with Best Gown, Most Disciplined, Miss Punctuality and Miss Congeniality (voted on by the other six contestants).
When the announcement was made at 10:45 p.m., her supporters screamed and jumped.
After taking her sash, crown and trophy, Nicholas got to pose for pictures with family, friends and well wishers. (NS)
