POLICE ARE STILL to determine if the picture of a man circulating on social media, said to be “armed and dangerous” and trying to dupe homeowners into giving him access to their properties, was legitimate.

In a widely circulated WhatsApp message yesterday, it was stated that the “former soldier” was part of a group of “bandits” moving around the island in two vans claiming to represent telecoms provider FLOW.

Police confirmed there were reports of suspicious people either visiting houses or telephoning homeowners purporting to be employees of the utility company and offering services.

However, public relations officer, Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler, told the DAILY NATION he had not seen the photograph or accompanying message and could not speak to the validity of its content. (LK)
