ACTIVITIES FOR World Food Day 2016 got under way with a Farmer’s Market & Culinary Exhibition Opening Ceremony on the grounds of the Ministry of Agriculture in Graeme Hall, Christ Church this morning.

Barbados will join the worldwide observance on Sunday, but students from the nearby Vauxhall and St Lawrence primary schools and members of the public got an early glimpse of what Barbados will be showcasing during the week-long celebrations at the all-day affair.

A variety of dishes, juices and treats made from local produce were on display and available for sale.

Patrons also got the opportunity to secure their fresh fruit and vegetables at competitive prices.

And as part of the thrust to get people to eat more healthily and to fight chronic non-communicable diseases and obesity, select nutritionists and chefs were on hand to show how favourites like macaroni pie can be prepared with less fat and more nutritional benefits. (YB)

Students from Vauxhall Primary attended the launch at the Ministry of Agriculture.
