WHILE MANY BARBADIANS remain concerned over the high number of firearm related incidents, crimes committed with firearms have significantly decreased from 2015.

In statistics received from the Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith, at the end of September there were 141 cases of firearm enabled crime compared to 202 at the same point last year and 173 in 2014.

Of those 141 cases; 10 were murders, 36 were robberies, three were assaults with intent to rob, 21 were endangering life, while other crimes made up 51 of those cases.

Griffith told the WEEKEND NATION that although 17 murders had been recorded for the year, with two months remaining it was expected to finish well below the 31 murders in 2015. (RB)
