THERE WAS another foul-up at the Foursquare Oval in St Philip yesterday as the Barbados Pride’s preparations for the upcoming Professional Cricket League regional first-class season hit a snag.

Despite sunny conditions and a dry outfield, not a single ball was bowled on the first day of the second Barbados Pride trial match because the pitch, which had a number of wet spots, was deemed unsafe for play.

On arriving at the venue, MIDWEEK SPORT was reliably informed that covers from the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) were placed on the pitch, following the conclusion of the sixth series Division 1 match between  ESA Field Pickwick and YMPC on Sunday.

But even though they were secured with iron stakes, they were blown off the pitch by strong winds and the exposed pitch subsequently received a drenching from the steady rain early Monday. (EZS)
