IF AUTHORITIES REALLY WANT to put a serious dent in crime, then they should dismantle every “block” in Barbados immediately.
Describing these gatherings of young people across the island as breeding grounds for criminal activity, Reverend Dr Lucille Baird said that people who frequent blocks should be engaged in more productive activities.
Baird’s comments came during a service yesterday at her Mount Zion’s Missions Church in Rock Dundo, St James to mark Crime Awareness Month. It was attended by Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite and staff of the Criminal Justice Research and Planning Unit (CJRPU). The theme was: The Criminal Justice System Of Barbados – 50 Years And Beyond.
Speaking on the subject The Role Of The Church In Moving Barbados Beyond 50 Years, Baird declared there was no God to be found on these blocks, and hence some young people “sit on the block all day and [some of them] cause trouble”.(SDB Media)
