MORE POSITIVES CASES are being recorded as a result of mammogram testing because more women are coming forward to have the procedure done.

Dr Shirley Jhagroo, medical coordinator of the Barbados Cancer Society’s Breast Screening Programme, said, however, that it was good news because the cases were being caught at Stages 0 and 1 compared to Stages 4 and 5 seen in earlier years.

Jhagroo was speaking yesterday as 18 000 champions in pink participated in the Walk For The Cure now in its 15th year. The event included 10K and 5K runs, and a 5K walk.

“With awareness we have early detection; with early detection lives are saved,” she said. (LK)
