Central open account

ST MICHAEL CENTRAL got their winning machine rolling Saturday night as they beat St Michael West Central 2-1 at Eden Lodge in the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic.

They looked very compact in the early exchanges, pushing the ball around stylishly, stringing neat, short passes together, but lacked penetration in the all-important attacking third.

Last year’s beaten finalists held 90 per cent of the possession in open play but their forwards were unable to test St Michael Central goalkeeper Terry Smith with any meaningful shots. They were men in a hurry, cognisant that they had lost their opening game and needed to stay on track.

The lads from West Central gradually worked their way into the duel and by midway into the first half, they had started to impose their will in a manner which suggested they could force the opposition into submission. (AT)
