DECISIONS MADE BY meteorologists and disaster management officials might not always find favour with all Barbadians, but are based on expert advice and in the public’s interest.
So says director of the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) Kerry Hinds, who strongly defended the decision by authorities to lock down the island for almost 48 hours as a result of the passing of Tropical Storm Matthew.
Following Matthew’s delayed arrival on Wednesday afternoon, some social media users questioned the decision by officials to close schools and businesses for the entire day.
However, speaking to the WEEKEND NATION following a Press conference at the DEM’s Warrens Industrial Estate headquarters yesterday morning, Hinds gave the assurance that decisions of that importance were only made after first consulting with experts in the field. (RB)
