FOOTBALLERS in Barbados are still playing with flair, fervour and finesse.

That was evident at Hilda Skeene Primary School ground in St Philip on Friday night as St George South kicked off their title bid in this year’s David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils’ Football Classic in fine fashion.

Last year’s losing semi-finalists, St George South trounced St Michael Central 3-0 courtesy of goals by Shakille Belle (25th minute), Rosean Brathwaite (57th) and substitute Dario Harewood (81st).

Hosts St Philip North, fielding a youthful outfit skippered by sweeper Stephen “Shakes Man” Griffith, warmed the hearts of their home fans with a pleasing 1-0 triumph over St Michael North after 18-year-old Tyrell Bancroft converted a penalty in the 76th minute. (EZS)
