Prison officer pleads guilty to smuggling letters, photos

THE PRISON OFFICER charged with smuggling a number of photographs and letters in and out Her Majesty’s prison was today remanded to that same institution today after appearing at the District “C” Magistrates’ Court.

Shawn McDonald Herbert, 41, of Olivies Gap, Tudor Bridge, St Michael pleaded guilty to the charge that without lawful authority he gave 11 letters and twenty nine photographs to a prisoner.

He also admitted to knowingly suffering 19 letters to be brought out of HMP Dodds and attempting to suffer three letters and one photograph to be conveyed from the same prisoner.

These offences were allegedly committed sometime between June 17 and September 14, 2016.

Acting Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch remanded Herbert until September 23. He will be segregated from the general populace. (TKS)
