A MERE THREE WINS separated the top four trainers for the second season with champion Victor Cheeseman coming out ahead of Liz Deane, Anderson Ward and Andrew Nunes.
Cheeseman separated himself from his colleagues when he won the Massy United Insurance Derby and the Midsummer Creole Classic with the classy Northern Star, whom he part owns with Mervyn Rollins.
Those wins were inspirational in Cheeseman attaining $198 142 from the 62 runners sent to post, of which eight were victorious.
The chestnut colt, whose sire Carpe Diem recently passed, rebounded from an eventful first jewel of the triple crown to brilliantly take the remaining jewels under jockey Antonio Bishop. (LY)
