Legal action looms at Customs

GOVERNMENT has been threatened with court action over recent appointments in the Customs and Excise Department, rangingfrom assistant comptroller to custom officer(1, 2 3).

In a letter sent to the chairman of the Public Service Commission David Bowen last week, 12 customs officers called the appointments unlawful, irregular and unfair, and have urged the Governor-General to rescind the appointments with immediate effect.

The correspondence from attorney-at-law Gregory Nicholls gave Government seven days to respond before legal action is taken. (TS)
