NUPW: Not yet, BRA

HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!

That was the response of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) to a statement last week from the Ministry of the Civil Service that customs officers would be finally incorporated into the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) from next month.

On Friday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Civil Service, Sonja Welch, made the announcement following one of two meetings for customs officers at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre to provide them with information on transitioning to BRA.

During the sessions, officers were extensively briefed and given the opportunity to ask questions and have them answered, a statement from the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) noted.

However, the NUPW made it clear yesterday that its members in the Customs and Excise Department were not to sign any option forms issued to them to join the BRA. (GE)
