THE ISLAND’S CHIEF legal officer is telling authorities to go into the communities where the guns are stashed – and seize them.
Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, in making the suggestion yesterday, said law enforcement agencies also needed to track and respond to how the firearms were smuggled into the country.
He was speaking to the media yesterday after Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson’s address to commence the legal year 2016-2017 following a service at The Cathedral of St Michael And All Angels.
His comments were in light of a number of recent public shootings that included a fatal St Lucy home invasion; the execution-style killing of a taxi driver outside a St Michael restaurant; a violent disruption of a Wotton, Christ Church fete that left four seriously hurt; shoot-outs in Brittons Hill, St Michael, and shootings along Wharf Road, The City. Some eyewitnesses claimed that high-powered weapons were used by some of the shooters. (TKS)
