BARBADOS’ MEN’S AND WOMEN’S teams both suffered crushing defeats when the Caribbean Table Tennis Championships served off at Parke del este Boulevard Del Faro in the Dominican Republic yesterday.

The men were brushed aside by Guyana and the Dominican Republic 3-0, while the women succumbed to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic by the identical score.

Tyrese Knight, making his senior regional debut, won the first game against Nigel Bryan 11-7 but then dropped the next two at seven and eight. Knight then rebounded to win the fourth 11-6 but folded in the decisive game 9-11.

Barbados never recovered from this initial setback as fellow debutant Marcus Smith lost to Shemar Britton in straight games before Kristian Doughty lost to Elishaba Johnson in a five-game contest to give the Guyanese a straightforward win. (PH)
