Vicki L. Olton is managing director of Effective Marketing Solutions.
Are you where you’ve always wanted to be?
Not quite. We always have great desires and goals which can only be established with time and experience. I am getting there.
What is your biggest professional challenge?
The biggest professional challenge faced is being able to build clientele in a period of economic strain where clients and prospects are cutting back on their spending. It isn’t always easy, but constant faith in what you do and who you are, as well as having the determination to succeed, makes the difference.
What is your biggest life challenge?
As long as you are alive there will always be challenges, but my biggest life challenge came in my transition from a nine to five job to becoming a full time entrepreneur. It is not always an easy task to take a bold step, especially as a new face in the industry and swimming in a sea with well-established marketing agencies.
When you look to the future, what do you see?
I see a successful business woman who goes beyond barriers to bring elevation to brands, not only in Barbados, but around the world.
What is your favourite pastime?
Reading.
What is your favourite meal?
Sushi.
On Saturday nights, where are you likely to be?
Relaxing at home.
What upsets you the most?
Favouritism and lack of integrity.
What is your guiding philosophy?
I live by this saying: “whatever you sow, you will reap”.
If you had the chance to manage Barbados for a day, what would you do?
There are many things I would love to do if I had this opportunity, but based on my passion for helping young people walk in their God-given purpose, I would develop an alternative-to-imprisonment programme for first time offenders which trains them in areas of anger management, conflict resolutions, self love and how to work towards bettering themselves and becoming great.
