Fewer Barbadians saying ‘I do’

FEWER PEOPLE ARE getting married in Barbados.

This is according to statistics available from the Registration Department showing the country recorded an almost 50 per cent decline in marriages over nearly a decade – from 3 676 marriages in 1996, to 1 925 last year.

The decline is cause for concern for some church officials.

Speaking to the SUNDAY SUN, district superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene Reverend Dr Orlando Seale acknowledged that Barbadians were moving away from traditional marriage. (AD/LT)
