OWNERS OF PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLES have sent a proposal to Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler for bus fare to be increased to $3.

Stating that the cost of fuel, maintenance and new vehicles had increased tremendously in recent years, members of the of Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT) and the Association of Public Transport Operators (APTO) sent written correspondence to Sinckler six weeks before he presented the 2016 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals recommending that bus fare be increased by $1.

In an interview with the WEEKEND NATION recently, members of the AOPT and APTO joint committee Ian Walcott, Louis Linton and Ingrid King said they were still awaiting a response from the minister.

In the letter dated June 24, 2016, the members also called for duty-free concessions on replacement vehicles. (RB)
