Barbados and T&T to clash for top spot at qualifiers

BARBADOS’ UNDER-21 netballers will battle nemesis Trinidad & Tobago to determine the top qualifier to advance to the AFNA Youth World Cup in Botswana next year.

Both the Bajan Gems and T&T maintained their unbeaten records in their penultimate games in the Qualifiers being played here in Dutch, St Maarten. 

T&T dismissed Grenada 52-28 before the Gems destroyed St Maarten 75-16.

Shonica Wharton came off of the bench from the second quarter to score a tournament high 52 goals from 58 attempts as the Gems led 13-5, 36-8, 57-12. Vanessa Reid-Cox added 13 from 16 while captain Sheniqua Thomas scored six from eight before taking the wing attack bib.

Shaquilla Davis contributed four goals from six attempts.

Earlier, St Kitts/Nevis defeated Canada 52-33. 

Host St Maarten and Canada will fight for the fifth position in the tournament ending match tonight at 7:30 before the closing ceremony. 

Barbados will battle T&T at 5:30 and prior to that game, Grenada should confirm their third spot when they meet Argentina at 3:30. (KB)
