A PATCHWORK AND painful budget that ignored the proper diagnoses to move forward and protect the stability of the country.
That summed up the position of Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley on the Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals 2016 as she gave her official response to the document presented by Finance Minister Chris Sinckler.
As the House of Assembly resumed, the Barbados Labour Party leader charged that the document was a combination of the views of special interest groups, aimed to promote the interest of the fatted calf and to make the government re-electable in the sight of the electorate.
While slamming the plan to raise $160 million through taxation, Mottley tore into claims by Sinckler that the country has turned the corner.
“The real casualty is the ailing economy of Barbados and the people of Barbados who are still no better off, no better informed and no better prepared to face next month, next year or to make decisions about their lives for the future,” she said. (WILLCOMM)
