BARBADIAN Tia-Adana Belle put in a gutsy performance to finish fourth in her 400-metres hurdles heat at the Rio Olympics last night but narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals.
The 20-year-old Belle, running in lane 8, came into the final turn leading, but faded over the final 100 metres after hitting the ninth hurdle.
The 2013 World Youth silver medallist had earlier clipped the first hurdle but ran with purpose and determination down the backstretch and around the final curve before falling away in the closing stages.
Having finished in a time of 56.68 seconds, Belle, who has a personal best of 55.82 seconds, anxiously awaited the outcome of the remaining heats with the hope of moving through to the semis as one of the six fastest qualifiers outside of the automatic qualifiers. (HG)
