LOCAL ADVOCATES of the solar energy industry feel that they are being sidelined when it comes to getting permission to embark on large projects.
This was the consensus during a town hall meeting held by Canadian energy company Deltro Group to discuss its plans to lease 70 acres of land at Waterford Plantation to construct a 20-megawatt solar farm. The event was held at the National Conservation Commission, Codrington, recently.
Managing director of Solar Watt Systems, Joshua Hunte, said he had been trying to get a licence for a solar project and questioned Deltro on how they were going about getting permission.
“I also have an application in for a system, not of this size, but I cannot get one. So I would like to know if you have one, how did you get it?” Hunte asked. (LK)
