Officials bemoan Crop Over Water

WHERE IS the pride in industry?

That’s the question being asked by business sector experts as a result of imported Crop Over Water, a new product marketed to promote Barbados’ 50th Independence anniversary.

The Barbadian-branded product, which is bottled by Crystal Caribbean Ltd in Trinidad under the direction of My Destination Weekend, was met with a backlash from Barbadians.

Noting that there were local manufacturers that could do the job, Barbados Manufacturing Association (BMA) executive director, Bobbi McKay said there was no need to mass-produce the product overseas. McKay said the appropriate local resources could be accessed by “asking a question” or carrying out an investigation. She said businesspersons were better able to guarantee the quality and consistency of locally made products, as well as create jobs.(LT)
