Barbados ‘let down’ by officials

BARBADOS were exceptional in Tortola. If only the officials could say the same.

Head coach Tanya Oxley believes her junior track and field athletes were denied the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) Games title after claiming on-field officials failed to disqualify champions Jamaica in three relays.

Oxley made the comment when the team returned home yesterday from another heart-breaking second-place performance that saw the young Bajans finish just four points behind rivals Jamaica.

“Unfortunately, because of the lack of organisation of the officials in BVI [British Virgin Islands] there were one or two instances where the rules were changed at the last minute to accommodate themselves or whoever they wanted to accommodate.

“So instead of Barbados being disqualified in one relay, Jamaica in three and Antigua in one, they allowed the relays to go forward and those points were awarded so we ended up being second,” Oxley told NATIONSPORT. (JM)
