Bajans ‘better than fifth’

BARBADOS were certainly better than their position.

So says girls’ head coach Cosmo Edwards after his national junior team had to settle for fifth place despite winning three of their four games at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation’s Under-16 tournament in Guyana.

“I am definitely pleased with the team’s showing and I think the girls really performed well and to think we played four games and only lost one with 12 rookies at this level is truly a great achievement,” said Edwards.

“Fifth place really isn’t a fair reflection of what we did because you have to consider that one of the teams playing in [Saturday’s] third-place game only won one game from the other group and they’re going to finish higher than us.” (JM)
