BARBADIAN Roston Chase is a step closer to his Test debut.

After a string of consistent performances over the past few seasons, the 24-year-old has been named in West Indies’ 12-man squad for the first Test against India starting on July 21 at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.

Chase’s selection comes after an outstanding return for Barbados Pride in the 2015-16 Professional Cricket League in which he scored 710 runs at an average of 59.16 and captured 23 wickets at 17.26 apiece with his handy off-spin.

The squad does not include experienced wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin who tweeted last week that he was informed of his non-selection by new chairman of selectors Courtney Browne.

The squad: Jason Holder (captain),  Kraigg Brathwaite (vice-captain), Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo,  Rajendra Chandrika, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich,  Shannon Gabriel, Leon Johnson, Marlon Samuels. (HG)
