ALEX SOBERS was never worried.
He may have left it late, but Barbados’ latest Olympic qualifier says he wasn’t anxious about finally meeting the standard in the 400 metres freestyle on the very last day of swimming qualification.
Sobers expressed the sentiment in an interview just days after his gold medal-winning performance at the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships.
“I really do all of my worrying in training, and I have to admit I was worried then, but I left the worrying in training because I always want to go into every meet thinking positive,” explained the 17-year-old Foundation schoolboy.
“At first in the prelims I went behind the blocks and felt really comfortable and not nervous at all, so I didn’t know if that was a bad thing and then in the final I really felt good and just pushed myself.
