Bajan junior ballers suffer first loss

BARBADOS’ JUNIOR BALLERS suffered their first defeat of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation’s Under-16 tournament yesterday, a disheartening 100-41 rout against favourites The Bahamas at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Guyana.

The result isn’t as disastrous as the actual 59-point deficit considering the previously unbeaten Bajans had qualified for the semi-finals ahead of that final top-of-the-table Group A encounter.

But it did drop them to the pool’s second seed and into today’s final four matchup with Group B powerhouses Jamaica that played unbeaten like The Bahamas, who forced Barbados into 33 turnovers while outrebounding them 66-31.

Barbados didn’t start badly, though, rallying from an initial 13-5 hole to pull within three (17-14) towards the end of the first quarter. (JM)
