TWO CANADIAN STUDENTS have been given two weeks to pay the courts $20 000 each.
If they can’t pay, they will be imprisoned for two years after pleading guilty to possessing and importing cannabis into Barbados.
Pauline Ann Dang and Indigo Akeylah Wills-Dorsey, both 21, arrived from Canada on the same flight yesterday.
Police say each woman was carrying seven kilogrammes of cannabis in 24 taped packages which were hidden in false compartments in their suitcases.
They were charged separately with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.
Dang and Wills-Dorsey appeared in the District “C” Magistrates’ Court before acting chief magistrate Christopher Birch today and each was fined $10 000 for possession and $10 000 for importation.
They were convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the charge of possession with intent to supply and reprimanded and discharged on the charge of trafficking. (PR/NB)
