IF THE WESTON FISHERFOLK ASSOCIATION has its way, the St James seaside town will become the next Oistins or Baxters Road.
But first, said public relations officer for the association Korie Dottin, certain things would have to be taken care of first – like the health of the beach and making the association more visible in the community.
Dottin was speaking to Heather-Lynn’s Habitat as the association held its annual fun day over the weekend.
“As all of the entrants are asking about our mission, we really intend to be hosting a little more activities as the months come, but we are waiting to iron out all the little issues we are faced with in terms of trying to make sure our water quality is cool, that waste water is not humbugging anybody, and that we won’t have health issues with anybody coming to take part in our activities,” he explained.
Once those issues were dealt with, said Dottin, then the association would ramp up its activities to every month or even every week.
“And you could always come down to Weston and enjoy the atmosphere as a Weston Fisherfolk culture because sometimes on good days we have all kind of things happening.
So we are just hoping that everything works out for us as an association in the future so that we will be impactful in the community.”
The aim, he added, would be to bring the community together and generate some income for the association “so that we could do more things in the community and reach a few more people to come out and take part in our celebrations”. (HLE)
