WINSTON EDWARDS, the longest serving darts player in this country, is back in the Barbados team at the age of 61, for the 21st Caribbean Darts Championships and the 8th Americas Cup, set to start on Saturday at the Crane Beach Hotel in St Philip.
Edwards, a funeral director, is delighted to be back in national colours for the first time since the tour of Trinidad and Tobago in 1994. His grandson, Combermere schoolboy Tyrese Brathwaite, has been selected for the Under-17 category.
“I am 61 and he is 16. It’s good to be back in national colours after 22 years. I am looking forward to what should be a tough competition,” Edwards said.
The enduring Edwards, who plays for Norlink Flighters in the domestic league, is part of a nine-man team that includes captain Clyde Murrell and experienced players Roger Edwards, Mark “Hammer” Cummins and Winston Cadogan. Mark Griffith, who played several seasons of Division 1 hockey for Deacons, is also in the line-up. (MK)
