BUT WAIT, wha’ really going on in trute though? Evah day ya wake up ya hearing ’bout somebody else who drop down and dead just so.
Wha’ I cahn understand. Fuh as long as I have been on this blessed earth, I have never heard about or seen this kinda thing. Of course, ya does hear ’bout strange and offbeat things happening in this li’l island but dropping down dead just so?
Duh gotta be some common thread dat connects these strange happenings. I nevah see nutten so in my born days. Okay, ya would’ve heard about sudden deaths evah once in a while but this is like every week ya hearing ’bout another one.
Now look at this: today is Thursday and when I open my newspaper this morning, the first thing dat greet me was a young woman, not even fifty years yet and she just dead and gone long sudden so.
Cause of deaths
It would be interesting tuh know what really is the cause o’ these sudden deaths. Ya cahn say it is the age because all the ages different. Ya cahn say it is where these people live or duh lifestyle because all o’ dem different. It ain’t even men and not women because both collapsing and dying just so, nuh kind o’ warning at all.
A seventeen-year-old boy was working in a gas station and just so he collapse and dat was the end o’ dat. Another time it was a old fella in the bus stand, then another man at a karaoke bar, and a young lady died while she was having lunch wid some friends.
As if dat wasn’t strange enough, another young woman was on her way tuh work and died in the bus. A man get off a bus on his way home and collapse and died just so. Then the other day a fella was just walking along and as somebody tell me he was a cool fella, nuh kinda fuss whatsoevah and he just collapse and dead. What about the teacher who died just so a few days ago and now Wednesday another young woman.
People frighten
Evahbody talking and coming up wid all kinds o’ reasonings about what it is dat causing people tuh die off just so. A fella was telling me this morning dat he hear people saying dat it is the water coming from the new water meters: so I ask he if he got a new water meter and he tell me yes so I had tuh turn and ask he why he ain’t dead yet? I had tuh leh he know dat a whole lot o’ people got dem metres and not one thing ain’t wrong wid dem. People trying tuh find some o’ all kinds o’ things dat will make sense o’ these sudden deaths.
I nevah see nothing so in my life. This thing got a lot o’ people frighten enough and lemmuh tell ya something: it should, because duh got a lot o’ people in Barbados who believe dat duh got life in the palm o’ duh hands and duh gine long living as duh like, day in and day out. ’Cording tuh my mother, some o’ dem does get on like duh mek duhselves, duh cahn touch God’s earth or speak tuh certain people – dem above evahbody.
Well, you would know dat these sudden deaths pon evahbody’s lips. A woman say dat she realise dat it ain’t affecting the boys pon the block, dat it like it only affecting the working people. He say dat while the fellas pon the block dying suddenly, it is from somebody shooting dem.
Dem doan get nuh strokes nor nuh heart attacks, and duh doan be stressed out like the working people who does be struggling and scratching out duh hair, trying tuh make ends meet. So I think I gine ’long wid she; I think it might just be the stress and responsibilities dat causing all o’ this. But only God know, hear? He got all the answers.
