AN EARLY MORNING FIRE has left three families homeless.
The fire started around 2:35 a.m. at Chapman Street, The City, gutted three wooden homes and damaged two more.
Reports indicate it began in a derelict house in the district.
A resident told NATION Online someone attempted to burn a mattress there yesterday and the Fire Service extinguished that fire. This second blaze started in the same house.
One three-bedroom house was occupied by Masoom Badat and four family members; 30-year-old Clem Bejonge and three relatives lived in another house, while Aziz Begia, 58, and three family members resided at the other.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Lloydson Phillips and 13 officers responded to the blaze.
On Saturday night, eight people, including a one-year-old, were also left homeless after a fire at Murphy’s Pasture, Emmerton, St Michael. (BN)
