GOVERNMENT IS CREATING over 200 more permanent teaching posts to correct the problem of an inordinate number of temporary teachers in the service.
Introducing a resolution on the Public Service (Teachers) Order 2016 in the Senate yesterday, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Senator Harry Husbands, said this would provide for the creation of over 200 teaching posts so that another 200 teachers could shortly be added to the service.
This would bring the complement of appointed teachers to 600 by the end of the year, following the move earlier this year to permanently fill 400 teaching posts held by people who were serving in temporary positions.
But while saying teachers would be able to feel a better sense of security in their jobs, Husbands in turn warned them their work and productivity would now come under greater scrutiny from taxpayers who would be demanding better results. (GC)
