YUH GAWH BE KIDDIN’: Just gotta love yaself

FRIENDS, BAJANS, COUNTRYMEN, lend me your eyes. Now usually when you see columns in the paper they are written by people who have extensive knowledge and/or experience on the topics they address.

However, in this instance this column will be written with one thing and one thing only, a rare trait that is only found in a few men and women and in even fewer people of power.

That trait, my friends, is common sense. Follow me on this journey as I show you the world through my eyes.

That being said, there are many things that offset my equilibrium: taxation, poor management of the West Indies cricket team, why people beg for money instead of jobs, why most young boys seem to think everyone needs to see what kind of boxer they are wearing and most importantly, why would any grown human adult on earth decide to tattoo in their hairline.

Let’s look at the latter for now. How do you get to the point where you look into the mirror and say to yourself, “I feel dat iffen I tattoo in my hairline nuhbody ain’t gine see dat my hairline gone back”?

Just take a minute or two to take that in.

Colour and texture

Do you think people realise that hair has colour as well as texture, and that even Ray Charles could tell that they have crayon marker where their hairline used to be? I came across this new trend when a friend of mine insisted on watching clips of a daytime talk show called The View; my distaste for the show will be expressed at a later date.

I’d like the men to think about when they become older, ’cause men are doing it also, and your hair starts to disappear like a payback on a Friday and all you are left with is a black shaded-in line from ear to ear looking like the last airbender of Barbados.

Sadly this reminds me of a previous trend with women shaving off their eyebrows and drawing them on, with some going as far as permanently tattooing them in. One time I saw a lady and I was so worried about her well-being, I asked if she was okay and it turned out that she was. So I proceeded to ask why she looked so shocked, but upon further examination I realised her eyebrows were tattooed in and the arch of them was reminiscent of the McDonald’s “M” arch. If you doubt me ask me.

Love yourself as you are because we were not meant to be perfect no matter how much we try.
